HSA Diving and SNUBA

One might think that to be able to dive, one needs to be 100% functional. However, this is not necessarily the case.

Scuba or SNUBA diving is very suitable to people with special needs and/or challenges. Remember, to get certified, one needs to only be able to perform everything according to performance requirements. A lot of these can be met while the way to get there is slightly modified from the "normal" procedures.

But even those of you who cannot meet these requirements can enjoy the wonders of the underwater realm. Yes, maybe the diver needs a little more assistance or equipment adaptations. Maybe they will never get certified. But the DIVING itself might still be an option!

You, as a dive pro, can be educated to make someone's (diving) day.

There is a lot of knowledge to be mastered as you need to know a bit beyond basics how people with certain physical or mental challenges differ from people who are fortunate enough to be like you. ONce you master the knowledge basics, we will have you experience first hand how wonderful diving can be even for the people who do face those challenges on daily bases.

But why?

It is a question we hear very often: "Why would a blind person want to dive? There's nothing to see for these divers? What's the attraction?"

Many of us seem to forget that diving isn't just a visual sport. Just the fact that one is weightless, can move effortless, like an astronaut can, is an attraction by itself. Blind or 20/20 vision, diving is very exciting or relaxing for everyone!

This realisation applies to all of us! No matter what the challenge is, we can always find very strong arguments to defend the beauty of diving. Of course it's up to you as a buddy to make sure you recognise the strong characteristics of the diver and use these to overcome any weaknesses!
