PADI Specialty Instructor

Why PADI Specialty Instructor? PADI Specialty Instructor Very soon after completing your PADI Instructor Development Course and certifying as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor you will hit a plateau in your teaching. Sure, the first 10 times you teach Open Water, Advanced and Rescue and Divemaster, you are going to be thrilled. But a few months into this you will want some variation in your repertoire.
This is where the PADI Specialties come in. The short courses in a certain niche that allow you to not worry about someone stressing out underwater, but that actually let you have some real easy fun, while still working on expanding the skills you and your candidates have.

Wonderful isn't it?

What to choose?

One of the first things to think about would probably be the big question of what to choose? What specialties could I possibly teach that would benefit everyone? What specialties are most popular? What would make me the most money?

The answer to those questions is very subjective. Although there are certainly a couple of specialties that are most sought after, the real power is the ones you are most comfortable with, both teaching and selling.
The more enthousiastic you are about a certain niche and the better you are at it, the better prepared you will be teaching and selling the specialty. Hence it benefits you best.
If you just want to be a Jack of all trades, sit with your CDC Course Director and form a game plan.

When?

You can somplete Specialty Instructor Courses immediately following your PADI OWSI Course, your PADI IDC or even immediately after you have completed your PADI AI Course. You may teach your specialties once you have completed the specialty instructor course, you are a PADI Instructor (undergone and succesfully completed an IE) and have received confirmation from PADI you are authorised to teach these specialties. (This usually takes a few days.)
Note: Although you can complete the training and all other requirements to teach specialties after you have been certified AI, you will NOT be able to teach them unless you are a PADI OWSI or up!

Structure of the course

The PADI Specialty Instrucor Course will consist of some knowledge development, followed by some hands on training. You will in fact be doing the `user level specialty` course completely, but in half the number of dives. During your knowledge development, you will have to complete a short Instructor Knowledge Review, after which your PADI Course Director will discuss the questions and answers, so you have a good understanding of the specialty requirements.
You will also complete a 10 minute knowledge development presentation yourself, on which you have to score a satisfactory score. piece of cake!

Team teach some classes

After certification as a PADI Specialty Instructor you will be able to teach PADI Specialty Courses.
We have found in the past that a lot of newly certified PADI Specialty Instructors are not really happy to do this by themselves yet.
Although this is very normal (first time is always difficult even after great preparation) we understand this is not a very comfortable feeling.

The good news is that our instructors are prepared to team teach with you. After you find your first specialty candidate you can come over and teach this course yourself. One of our instructors will be your assistant during this course to help you cement your foundation.

Just let us know and we can schedule you in. Your CDC team is ready whenever you are!
