PADI WhaleShark Awareness Specialty

PADI WhaleShark Awareness Although we rarely see these beautyful animals over here, occasionally we encounter the gentle giant. At that moment it is a good idea to be able to know how to behave around the biggest fish in the sea! Our last spot of this animal was in January 2009, where a 20ft/6mtr `baby` was spotted near Proselyte; one of our most famous reefs / wrecks of the Island of St. Maarten. Since the waters in St. Maarten, unlike for instance Utila, aren't very deep, we can actually dive with these creatures. If you go on a whale shark encounter around Utila, you would only be able to snorkel with them. It is therefore we practise both snorkel and diving encounter techniques with you. If the occasion arises, you will be ready for an enjoyable encounter that will not disturb the animal.
