SNUBA - The link between Snorkeling and SCUBA

S.N.U.B.A.

SNUBA SNUBA is short for Surface Nexus Underwater Breathing Aparatus and although many people are not really aware of it, has been around since 1988 and quite successfully bridges the enormous gap that existed between snorkeling and Scuba Diving.

No heavy equipment

With SNUBA you do not have to walk around with heavy equipment. Your air comes from the surface at which the SNUBA raft holds your tank for you! All you are wearing is a very light harness with your regulator attached to it and a belt with a few weights to help you get down when you WANT to

Attached to the surface

The air hose to which you are connected doubles as your line to the surface. You are able to pull yourself to the surface and let yourself down at any point during the experience at your own convenience and are never more than 20ft from the raft!

No learning curve

The SNUBA briefing takes no more than 10 minutes. Since SNUBA is extremely safe and always conducted by very experienced SNUBA guides, there is no need for extensive classroom sessions or written tests.

Instant fun

As stated above. Just a few moments after arrival at the dive spot, you're in the water drawing your first breaths underwater (or at the surface) through a regulator and you are enjoying the underwater realm.

YOU determine your depth

Unlike on SCUBA, where you are supposed to always be at the same level of your dive master or instructor, during the SNUBA experience, it is the participant...so you who determines how deep you are in the water. If you feel comfortable at the surface, just snorkeling with a regulator in, you stay at the surface. If you want to come down to depth and join the guide to see sealife from closeby, you are welcome to do that too. It is great to be in full control!!

What can you see?

As a SNUBA diver, you can see almost as much as SCUBA divers do. In fact, since the experience takes place between 0 and 20ft of depth, you will probably see more colors than they do! Here in SXM you might see Lobsters, Stingray, loads of fish and of course the wrecks and other attractions that we put down for you to see.

Any prerequisits?

Yeah, there are some. You need to be able to swim and also need to be in reasonable health. SNUBA is of course a moderate activity and although it isn't hard to do, if you are unable to swim at all or are tired extremely quickly, it might not be for you. However, if you are able to climb the stairs at home and are able to walk a block or two without toppling over, SNUBA is not far from the perfect, effortless underwater experience. Any more effortless will cost you the small fortune of chartering a luxury submarine.

What must I bring with me?

A bathing suit, a towel, dry clothes, underwater camera if you want (we also have these for sale in the shop), a smile and gratuities.

SNUBA, who is it for?
